Sri Lanka thrash Pakistan by 2 wickets in 2nd ODI, level series by 1-1

Staff ReportDUBAI: Sri Lanka thrashed Pakistan in second ODI by two wickets and leveled five-match series by 1-1 in Dubai International Cricket Stadium this midnight, SAMAA reports.Sri Lankan batsmen played smartly and continued getting closer to the target of 285 runs, set by Pakistan, while losing wickets gradually.The Islanders finally achieved the target on fourth ball of last over, after losing eight wickets, and won the match by two wickets.Sri Lankan batsman MDKJ Perera scored 16 runs, Dilshan 40, Sangakkara 58, Chandimal 44, NLTC Perera 5, Mathews 47, Kulasekara 32, Prasanna and Senanayake 6 each, and Karunaratne 16 runs. Pakistan bowlers added 17 runs as extras in Sri Lankan team’s score.Pakistan bowler Junaid took three wickets, Shahid Afridi two wickets, and Saeed Ajmal one wicket. Two Sri Lankan batsmen were run out by the Pakistan fielders.Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and invited Pakistan for batting first in second ODI fixture in Dubai’s packed international cricket venue on Friday night.Pakistan batsmen played comparatively better and set 285 runs target on four wickets after completion of assigned 50 overs.Pakistan batsman Ahmad Shehzad made his career’s best ODI score, 124 runs, with impressive century on 140 balls and received massive applaud from the fans.Sri Lanka’s AD Mathews received Player of the Match Award in this second ODI fixture for his much needed 47 runs and standing firm at time of need to assure victory for the Islanders.Sri Lanka has leveled the five-match series by 1-1 with Pakistan after winning the second ODI and increased interest of the cricket lovers for third ODI fixture scheduled on Sunday.
