ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday hailed China’s historic cooperation with Pakistan, as Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed joint session of the Parliament, Samaa reported.
“Pak-China friendly is genuinely deeper than the ocean. Our friendship is based on mutual interest and respect,” the Speaker said in his welcoming note.
Ayaz Sadiq welcomed the visiting dignitary and hailed his country’s contribution to help boost Pakistan’s economy as well as defence capabilities.
The Speaker said Pakistan and China are pursuing a joint policy for peace and stability in the region, and both are committed to eradicate terrorism.
“We are thankful to our sincere friend for its assistance against terrorism,” he said.
The speaker said Xi Jinping is fourth Chinese president to address Pakistan’s Parliament, and that it was first address by any foreign head of state to the current Parliament.
National anthems of China and Pakistan were played at the joint session of the Parliament that was attended by all political leaders and three services chiefs.
Earlier, President Xi Jinping arrived at Parliament House and held a meeting with Speaker Senate Raza Rabbani and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. - Samaa
