Rangers detain Sunni Tehreek's Sarwat Ijaz Qadri

KARACHI: Paramilitary troops, who are pushing a clampdown on Pakistan Sunni Tehreek these days, have detained Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, the chief of the religious organization, Samaa reported.

"Rangers had invited Qadri and Ghauri for a meeting at their headquarters in Mithadar almost seven hours ago. After a long interrogation, the paramilitary troops sent Qadri's armed bodyguards and driver away saying the PST leaders are now under their custody," sources told Samaa quoting a Sunni Tehreek spokesman.

Rangers confiscated piles of documents in an early morning raid on one of PST offices Sunday. There was no word on any arrests made during the search operation.

According to the sources, it was a n intelligence based raid conducted following the information coughed up by some PST workers already in custody of paramilitary troops.

Sources told Samaa the seized documents contain information about the funds collected under Fitra and Zakat.
