ISLAMABAD: With all it is worth, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is out not to let the democracy run off its tracks, come what may.

“We will never let it derail because we have an infallible faith in democracy and the supremacy of Parliament is our mission”, senior PPP leader, Qamar Zaman Kaira told Samaa after attending a high-level party meeting chaired by Asif Ali Zardari here.

PPP is actively trying to defuse the ongoing political crisis that erupted after thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek protestors marched on Islamabad demanding ouster of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

To a question, Kaira said the party chief, Asif Ali Zardari was in total agreement with the line the PPP leadership has taken to break a stalemate between the protesting parties and the government.

“We are doing what we can so that a constitutional consensus is reached before the Chinese leader’s visit to Pakistan”, said he.

Championing Syed Khursheed Shah, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Kaira said PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri was requested to refrain from adding to existing embitterment.

Earlier in the day Dr Qadri had snubbed Shah for a statement he issued while addressing the joint session of parliament on the floor of the house.

“Shah is our pride. He is an asset to Pakistan People’s Party. I want to tell Dr Qadri the PPP is a family not a party”, said Kaira calling Shah PPP’s ‘Mathay Ka Jhoomar’ (a jeweled ornament worn on the forehead).

To another question, the PPP’s eloquent leader declared Khan and Qadri had won this battle.

“If their efforts translate into an independent election commission then it will be a great service to the people of Pakistan”, said Kaira showering praises on both the leaders.--SAMAA
