Minorities demand security for worship places

PESHAWAR: Speakers in a seminar called for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to provide security to worship places of minorities in the province.

A follow-up meeting was held at Peshawar Press Club "Religious Freedom and Minority" organized by South Asia Partnership Pakistan.

Haroon Surab Diyal of Hindu Community, Radish Singh of Sikh Community and Augustin Jacob of Christian Community took participation in the seminar.

They demanded the provincial government to protect their worship places which have been in dilapidated conditions from the last 67 years.

They said that they have been deprived from their worship adding that due to security reason they cannot visit the worship places situated in the city. They said that the government has announced to install CCTV cameras in front of their shops but did not complete the task.

They also demanded of the government to include their religious subjects in the curriculum. They further said that "we all are Pakistanis and there should be a common celebration of Eid, Holi, Dewali Charismas and other festivals for interfaith harmony."  - APP
