IGP Sindh reviews security plan for educational institutions

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali presided over a high level meeting to review the measures taken for security of schools, colleges and universities at the metropolis and other cities of the province.

A comprehensive study report was submitted by DIGP/Special Branch Naeem Akram, said a statement issued here on Sunday.

IGP Sindh directed the officials concerned to devise a comprehensive Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) for the security in consultation with stakeholders and ensure its implementation before January 11.

Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo informed the meeting that the police were well aware of the security issues of educational institutions, so the letters in this connection were issued to the authorities of schools, colleges and universities.

The schools have been advised to keep the parking of vehicles at a safe distance from school premises and similarly only authorized vehicles/personnel should be allowed to enter school premises, he added.

Zonal DIGs of Karachi informed the meeting that SHOs have already been issued specific instructions in this regard and to prepare list of the educational institutions within their jurisdiction to beef-up the security with the available resources.

It was further informed during the meeting that special teams for combating any untoward
incident are being constituted. The Counter Assault Teams (CAT) will be comprising police commandos.

IGP Sindh has ordered to accelerate the targeted operations against the criminal elements and to enhance the security of important buildings, educational institutions and important installations. (APP)
