Baldia Town factory inferno can’t be ignored, says PM

LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Saturday said the case of Baldia Town factory inferno incident that claimed nearly 300 lives cannot be ignored.

 Addressing a meeting of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) here, Sharif said he has got the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report of Baldia Town factory fire incident.

“All the legal requirements would be fulfilled in Baldia Town tragedy,” the prime minister said.

Reiterating his stance over Karachi violence, he said his government would eliminate terrorism from the country’s business hub.

“Target Operation is continuing successfully in Karachi and law and order situation there has improved to a great deal,” he said.

The PM called upon media to extend their cooperation to government in implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) to rid the country of terrorism.

He said the country is passing through the most difficult times and responsibility rests with all the institutions including the media to play their role to steer the country out of all the challenges.

Sharif said he believes in an independent judiciary and the media, however, he added the media should also hold itself accountable and evolve an effective code of ethics.

On issue of power outages, the prime minister said the government is determined to overcome the electricity shortage in its tenure.

“We have decided to generate 3,600 megawatts of electricity through the LNG.” -Samaa
