Interim Punjab govt mulling to hold Basant festival

Staff ReportLAHORE: The interim Punjab government is mulling over granting permission to celeberate ‘Basant’ festival in the province later this month, SAMAA reports.Basant, or traditional kite-flying festival, used to be extremely popular not only in Punjab but world over but the festival was banned some years ago following increasing number of casualties during the festivities.The sources in the provincial interim government said that the government is looking over the possibility of granting permission to resume the festival.However, the Punjab government would have to take concrete steps to avoid any loss of life during the festivities in accordance with the Supreme Court’s orders.Sources said the caretaker Punjab government is likely to hold the festival on April 13 during which several kite-flying competitions will be held. – SAMAA
