Earthquake kills 15 more in Awaran

Staff ReportAWARAN: At least 15 people were killed and more than 50 were injured on Saturday when an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude struck already-devastated Awaran district of Balochistan province, officials say. Today's earthquake is second this week following Tuesday’s powerful earthquake in which over 650 people have died.According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the new quake was 96 km north-east of Awaran district of Balochistan.The quake also shook buildings in Karachi and jolted Naushero Feroze, Shahdat Kot, Jacobabad, Jafarabad, Naseerabad, Khuzdar, Kalat, Pishin, Kharan and other areas. Ashraf Jatak, DPO, Awaran has told SAMAA 15 people have died in Mashkay town of Awaran. He said many are still feared trapped under the rubble of the flattened houses. Relief operation still remains a task in many remote areas of the district due to law and order issues. Meanwhile, China has announced aid of USD 1.1 million for quake-hit people. – SAMAA
