2005 earthquake: Victims remembered on 8th anniversary

Staff ReportMUZAFFARABAD: The nation on Tuesday remembered the martyrs of October 8, 2005 earthquake tragedy on the 8th anniversary of catastrophic earthquake that piled up miseries including deaths and devastations in Azad Kashmir region, SAMAA reported. A day of repentant (Youm-e-Astaghfar) is being observed in Azad Kashmir, with the federal government reiterating its commitment to complete the reconstruction and rehabilitation task.A minute’s silence was observed in Muzaffarabad at 8:52 pm in the memory of earthquake victims.A 7.6 magnitude tremor rocked Azad Kashmir in the morning on October 8, 2005, killing over 46000 lives, injuring thousands others and destroying over 300,000 houses and private and public properties worth billion of rupees. - SAMAA
