Regional moot on counter-narcotics underway in Islamabad

Staff ReportISLAMABAD: Two-day Regional Ministerial Conference on Counter-Narcotics gets underway today in the federal capital with ministers from twelve regional countries participating in the moot, SAMAA reports Monday.Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani opened the conference, saying the two-day conference is aimed at stanching the drugs in the region and the coherent anti-drug efforts will be enhanced with the holding of the conference. Short of cooperation from all countries, the narcotics cannot be stemmed in the region, he added.The invited countries included Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.The Foreign Ministry said earlier the aim of the Ministerial Conference is to share national experiences in countering the menace of illicit drugs and discuss prospects of regional cooperation in developing pragmatic, comprehensive and sustainable ways of addressing the multifaceted challenge posed by illicit drugs production, demand and trafficking. –SAMAA
