Parliament set to take up NSC recommendations on Pak-US ties
Staff ReportISLAMABAD: The recommendations compiled by National Security Committee (NSC) on new terms of engagement with the United States will be submitted before the joint session of the Parliament starting Tuesday. The joint session will continue for three days. The NSC has linked the resumption of NATO supply routes with a guarantee on Pakistan’s national security and sovereignty. Pakistan had blocked NATO supplies after NATO’s attack on Salala Checkpost bordering Afghanistan in November last year. According to reports, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has decided to set new terms of engagement with the US. And the task to set new terms was given to a parliamentary committee. The committee headed by Senator Raza Rabbani held several meetings and drafted over 35 recommendations. It called for an immediate end to drone strikes. The committee also recommended written agreements with the US. Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar says the fate of Pak-US ties is in the hands of the Parliament.
