Govt decides to introduce uniform tariff for coal-based power
Staff ReportISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Water and Power on Monday decided to introduce uniform tariff for power generation projects through coal. The Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has suggested up to Rs12.89 a liter. According to the PPIB, power generation through coal would help overcome the country’s electricity shortfall. The coal-based electricity could be 40 percent cheaper than that of furnace oil. The PPIB has proposed a tariff of Rs12.95/liter for projects, which will generate 200 MW of electricity through country’s coal. It proposed Rs12.89/litre for projects, to be run from imported coal.The uniform tariff will be applied on projects that will fulfill financial conditions till 2014.
