Gilani: Nobody but Parliament could oust PM
Staff ReportISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yosuuf Raza Gilani said Friday nobody, except the Parliament, could remove him from his office. Speaking on the floor of National Assembly (NA), Prime Minister Gilani said only Speaker of the House could disqualify him as the Prime Minister. “I am ready to step aside if NA Speaker de-notifies me,” he said.
The Parliament is the country’s supreme institution, he said, adding his only crime is to protect the Constitution. He also lashed out at the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), saying the opposition party could not run the House even for one day due to its big ego.
"One brother doesn't accept the President; other brother doesn't accept the Prime Minsiter while the whole PML-N doesn't accept Imran Khan," he mocked.
Premier Gilani also challenged the opposition party to bring a no-trust motion.
Coming back to the issue of immunity, the prime minister said all heads of states enjoy immunity across the world under the Vienna Convention.
Later, the session was put off till Saturday 5pm.
