Rain forecast for Punjab, KP as Sindh bakes at 40C
Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and upper parts of the country from Thursday, May 19, 2022 (today).
Most areas in the country are set to continue experiencing a heat wave-like situation over the next few days, though some parts may enjoy a respite in the form of showers over the weekend.
According to the Met Office, westerly winds are likely to enter the upper parts of the country on May 19 and the condition would persist till May 24 due to which rain and thunderstorm were expected in many areas of the country.
Some of the cities where showers have been forecast include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Kohat, Waziristan, Bannu, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Hafizabad, M. B Din, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, T.T Singh, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan (Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Diamir, Hunza, and Skardu)
Temperatures are likely to subside during the forecast period in most parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the prevailing heatwave over central and upper Sindh will persist till May 23.
In the daytime, maximum temperatures can rise to 46-48 degrees Celsius in Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana, Nawabshah, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Ghotki Sukkur & Khairpur districts.
While 42-44 degrees Celsius temperatures were likely to scald Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparker districts.
Very hot weather is also expected in Badin and Thatta districts with a maximum temperature range of 40-42 degrees Celsius during the period.
