Gastro-related maladies on rise at flood relief camps in Sindh

Staff ReportBADIN: Epidemics like gastro diseases are on the go in relief camps erected for people rendered homeless by flooding in District Badin with no proper arrangements for their meals and potable water, SAMAA reported Tuesday.Poorly maintained camps begin witnessing deaths thanks to lack of healthcare facilities. The affected people said the government had not come to their rescue despite lapse of one week.Anguished by homelessness and loss of crops, the flood-affectees are now having to fend off epidemics like malaria and gastro diseases with nothing to feed their children with, to cap it all.A 20-year pregnant woman died of gastro-related ailment at a relief camp in Pangrio. The similar conditions can be witnessed in Tehsil Golarchi Union Council Tarai, where flood-hit people complained nobody arrived there to inquire after them.Cattle in large number were carried off by huge flood torrents.
