Govt plans more hike in power tariff to dishearten consumers

Staff ReportKARACHI: The government is expected to again increase the price of electricity by Rs.1.76 per power unit, reported SAMAA on Tuesday.
According to reports, Power Purchasing Company (PPC) has requested the government to announce another hike in power tariff by Rs.1.76. It is reminded here that the government has already raised power tariff by Rs.3.95 per unit in the month of October. The new raise, it is being said, has been planned to discourage the consumers from use of electricity.The price of electricity that was at Rs.3.95 per unit in 2004 has now reached Rs.7.66 in August 2011. It suggests that power tariff has gone up by 100 percent during all these years. After the fresh proposal, the consumers will have to pay Rs.11.44 per unit. According to well-placed sources, the government has decided to step up its plan to compel the consumers to end the use of electricity. SAMAA
