KESC appeals NEPRA to reduce power tariff

Staff ReportKARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has submitted an appealed to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for reduction of power tariff by 0.62 paisa per unit, SAMAA reported on Wednesday.This appeal has been made on the account of fuel cost and adjustment for the month of September by the KESC.Total 1320 million units of power were compositely sold by the KESC during month of September and the NEPRA has already given approval for reduction of power tariff by 0.81 paisa per unit under fuel adjustment during July and August this year.At the other side, the NEPRA has also approved power tariff hike by Rs. 5.08 per unit for the power distribution companies for last two months.According to the NEPRA officials, the KESC purchases 74 percent of electricity on basket rate from the NTDC and this is the main reason that its tariff will be reduced third time consecutively.
