NEPRA raises KESC tariff by 96 paisas per unit
Staff ReportKARACHI: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has allowed Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to increase its tariff by 96 paisas per electricity unit in the form of fuel adjustment charges. The fresh raise will be applicable for the month of December. The Karachi power company had requested NEPRA to increase its power tariff by Rs. 1.1 per unit. However, NEPRA approved a raise of 96 paisas per unit. NEPRA Chairman Khalid Saeed granted the approval at a meeting today. On this occasion, NEPRA member Maqbool Khawaja raised serious concerns about KESC's reluctance to generate electricity through furnace oil. He said that KESC is bound to comply with the instructions of NEPRA. “If KESC does not abide by the directives of NEPRA, it will be served a show-cause notice,” he warned. He said the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) is supplying 600 megawatts of electricity to KESC, leading to prolonged power cuts in other parts of the country. SAMAA
