2 more swine flu cases surface in Lahore

LAHORE: Two more persons have been infected by swine flu in the city on Sunday.

Two staff members of the Social Security Hospital have been infected by swine flu. The total number of infected persons by the virus H1N1 in the Social Security Hospital of Lahore has reached six.

SWINE FLU VICTIM DIES IN KARACHI

A swine flu victim died on Saturday in city's private hospital, SAMAA reported.

The female patient infected with swine flu virus was admitted in the National Medical Centre. Aga Khan Hospital laboratory confirmed the virus.

According to the incharge of Swine Flu Surveillance Cell of Sindh Health Department, Dr Shakeel Malik, more than 350 swine flu victims have been admitted in different hospitals of the province. This is the second death in the city by this virus.

ANOTHER SWINE FLU CASE REPORTED IN PAK

A nurse in the Nawaz Sharif Security Hospital Lahore, named Virginia has been confirmed to have been infected by swine flu on Saturday (December 12).

Virginia was in the same ward where physiotherapist Iftikhar Ahmed died a few days ago of swine flu. Her case is the second one reported in Lahore this week.

The Nawaz Sharif Security Hospital Superintendent Dr Syeda Rahat Fatima told SAMAA that the nurse has been isolated from the other patients. The samples from people surrounding her have been collected and sent to the National Institute of Health Islamabad.

LAHORE HOSPITALS ALERTED FOR SWINE FLU

Punjab Health Department has alerted all hospitals in the city after death of a physiotherapist infected with swine flu on December 08.

According to Health Department spokesperson, separate beds have been allocated in all hospitals for patients reporting with symptoms of swine flu and the doctors and other staff have been asked to adopt precautionary measures.

On Monday, physiotherapist of Nawaz Sahrif Social Security Hospital passed away after being infected with swine flu. Blood samples of 38-year-old doctor were sent to National Institute of Health, Islamabad after he was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of swine flu. The diagnostic tests for swine flu came positive.

Principle Allama Iqbal Medical College Dr Javed Akram has confirmed that Dr Iftikhar's death was due to swine flu.

This was the second swine flu death in Pakistan. An Afghan woman died of the disease in a private hospital in Peshawar last month. SAMAA
