ISLAMABAD: The Parliament will soon be passing the 18th constitutional amendment bill, Federal Law Minister Babar Awan said while talking to media on Wednesday.

He said that National Assembly is debating the bill and later on it would be discussed in the Upper House. The law ministry, he said, has prepared all the required documents for the presentation of bill in the Senate.

Mentioning to empowerment of the Parliament, the minister said, a strong Parliament guarantee a strong Prime Minister and ‘a powerful Prime Minister is beauty of the democracy.’

Baber Awan said the number of ministries would be reduced as per the constitutional amendment.

On provincial autonomy, he said, it will pave way for provinces to take development initiatives for their respective people.

On the other hand, former minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman also described the 18th amendment a turning point in country’s history and appreciated support of the Opposition.

“Opposition is a soul of democracy,” she said and hoped, the bill would easily be passed from both the Houses.

“The strategy of reconciliation and collectiveness will go a long way to change the destiny of our people,” she added. SAMAA
