FM condemns kidnapping of Iranian diplomat

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi Thursday strongly condemned the kidnapping of Heshmatollah Atharzadeh, Third Secretary in the Consulate General of Iran in Peshawar.

In a statement issued by Foreign Office here, the Foreign Minister has assured the Government of Iran and the family of the Iranian diplomat that Pakistan government will take all necessary measures for his safe and early recovery.

The Foreign Minister also extended his deep sense of grief to family of the deceased Security Guard.

Unknown gunmen here Thursday morning kidnapped Hashmatullah Atharzadeh, the Commercial Attache of Iranian Consulate Peshawar and killed his security guard at posh locality of Hayatabad township.

Police said Hashmatullah was on his way to office from home when his vehicle was intercepted by kidnappers and made him hostage at gun point.

The security guard Sajjad was shot dead at Phase-4 Hayatabad and the killers managed to escape from the scene.

It may be recalled that Afghanistan ambassador-designate to Pakistan Abdul Khaliq Farahi had also been kidnapped by unknown gunmen from Hayatabad township few weeks ago and is still missing.
