KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain appealed on Friday for the people of Karachi to observe a ‘Youm-e Sog’ (Day of Mourning) after the suicide attacks in Lahore and Nowshera in which Pakistan’s renowned religious scholar and anti-Taliban cleric Dr Maulana Sarfaraz Naeemi, was killed.

Routine life in the city came to a halt Saturday. Major markets and bazaars stayed shut and there was thin traffic on the roads. Many petrol pumps shut down for fear of retaliation and young men went around the city stealing petrol from motorcycle and car tanks in the morning. SAMAA
