Rains lead to Lahore traffic jams
By Mohammad Luqman
LAHORE: Rains in the upper Punjab started at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning and by the time people attempted to go to work traffic jams developed, especially in Lahore.
Part of the problem was caused by digging and construction work for development projects ahead of the monsoons. These construction sites have turned into pools of muddy water.
Forty-five millimetres of rain were recorded in Lahore and 12 millimetres at the airport. Power supplies to many areas of the city were cut immediately after the rains but restored within two hours.
Two roofs collapsed during the rains, injuring 12 individuals. Rainwater accumulated in the dug-up roads, posing a risk to passersby.
According to the meteorological department, a new wave of monsoon rain is expected in Punjab, NWFP and Kashmir from Friday. SAMAA
