Former pacer Aaqib Javed wants Ramiz Raja to step down as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to Daily Express, the Lahore Qalanadars’ head coach, Javed, believes that former PCB Chairmen Najam Sethi or Zaka Ashraf could replace Raja.

“Considering the way he [Ramiz] supported Imran Khan, I think he should reign from his role,” said Javed.

“I think chances are bright that one of Najam Sethi or Zaka Ashraf will become next PCB Chairman. They both did a good job during their previous tenures,” he added.

It must be noted that the future of Raja is uncertain after Imran Khan was dismissed as Pakistan’s prime minister after losing a no-confidence vote in the national assembly.

The former right-armer also slammed PCB’s decision to start Pakistan Junior League, which is scheduled for October this year. The board has also released the Request for Expressions of Interest for various available rights relating to the Twenty20 competition.

“The PCB should first focus on making PSL a success before starting other projects. There are still a lot issues which need to be addressed with regards to PSL,” he said.

“Countries like Sri Lanka and India organize three-day cricket for youngsters. Meanwhile, grade cricket is given a lot of importance in Australia where kids play a lot of red-ball cricket. This helps them when they enter first-class cricket as they have already faced a lot of balls,” he concluded.
