Pakistan Muslim League-N has held a large public gathering in Gujranwala Sunday evening and after the event, the PML-N long march will resume its onwards journey to Islamabad.

The gathering, which was scheduled for Saturday night, was postponed due to the late arrival of the marchers, led by Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, from Lahore. It was held at Iqbal High School after nightfall. Maryam Nawaz began her address at around 9pm.

She said unlike the PTI government the PML-N had gathered a huge number of supporters for the second time within 24 hours without using state resources while Imran Khan's Islamabad rally had failed.

"Someone was crying in the Parade Ground," she said referring to the venue of PTI's rally.

She said Imran could not draw even 10,000 people to his rally and that the PML-N's Gujranwala public gathering was bigger than that of Imran Khan's.

Maryam Nawaz said the someone "speaking" in Islamabad was the biggest rat of the country, who has eaten the flour, sugar, ghee and jobs of Pakistan's 220 million people.

The PML-N leader warned Imran Khan of a tit-for-tat response for using foul language.

Maryam said that the real "absolutely not" was said by Nawaz Sharif when he rejected the offer of Rs5 billion from US President Bill Clinton and preferred to go for the 1998 nuclear test.

The PML-N leader accused Imran Khan of corruption.

Maryam also said that the world was not testifying to the honesty of Nawaz Sharif. She referred to statements made by Judge Arshad Malik and Broadsheet chief Kaveh Moussavi.

Before the rally, Maryam Nawaz Sharif addressed a press conference in Gujranwala and said that the government was using state resources for its rally in Islamabad.

She alleged that Imran Khan government was involved in huge corruption and evidence was available with the opposition. “You would know when the details about a woman named Farah come out,” she said.

Maryam blasted Imran Khan for using strong language against the opposition. Referring to the PM’s repeated use of “three rats” for the opposition leaders, Maryam said, “You were the biggest rat in 2018 who cut through voters slips, and now by delaying the vote [on the no-confidence motion] you are cutting through the constitution.”

She said Imran Khan government was responsible for sugar, flour, and medicine scandals. Medicine prices have been increased 600 per cent and you say that you have not come to power to inquire about potato and onion rates, she said.

The long march which started from Model Town, Lahore around 3pm reached Gujranwala late at night. The roughly 100km distance, which is a 1.5-hour drive, from Lahore was covered in 14 hours.

The PML-N has named its protest as “Mehgai Mukao March” (a march against inflation) and party supporters claim that due to the sheer numbers of participants the march may take a much longer time to arrive in Islamabad.

PML-N supporters from Sindh and other parts of the country are also travelling to Islamabad.
