Karachi police recover drugs worth $1 billion from Surjani Town

Karachi police recovered Thursday night more than 5.5 tons of drugs worth $1 billion during a raid in Surjani Town.

According to West-Zone Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Nasir Aftab, the team intercepted a car at Northern Bypass and recovered sixteen kilograms of drugs from the vehicle. He said police arrested the driver and shifted him to the police station for interrogation.

“During the preliminary investigation, the suspect told police that he was going to offload the drugs in a house located in Surjani Town,” the DIGP said.

The police then conducted a raid at the identified house and recovered a huge quantity of drugs, including chars, heroin and opium (afune).

The weight of recovered drugs, he said, is 5.5 tons worth $1b in the international market.

The DIGP added that the drugs would have offloaded in the house from where the network used to operate. Aftab was, however, clueless about the racket involved in drug smuggling.

“The police officials have also recovered chemicals from the house which were being used in the manufacturing of drugs,” he said.

The police have started the investigation and the held suspect is being further interrogated.
