Peshawar blast: CCTV shows bomber first fired at worshipers

Several tried to run out of mosque

Two CCTV videos have unfolded the horrors of the suicide attack in Peshawar’s Jamia Masjid Kocha Risaldar that killed and wounded scores of worshippers.

SAMAA TV’s Peshawar correspondent Sajjad Haider reported that the clips were obtained from CCTV cameras installed near the imambargah and at its entrance.

The first clip shows that the attacker opened fire at the two police officers deployed at the entrance of the imambargah while he shot another man on his way in.

The second clip from the gate shows that the attacker entered at 13:07 into the prayer hall and seconds later detonated his explosive vest. According to several eyewitnesses, the attacker had opened fire on the worshipers inside the hall.

“When people started running out of imambargah to save themselves the attacker blew himself,” an eyewitness said.

The imambargah is one of the biggest in the city with nearly three floors. The explosion occurred just before the prayers were to begin in the main hall.
