Alia Bhatt has opened up on the initial concerns surrounding her casting in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's forthcoming biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The promotions for Gangubai Kathiawadi are in full swing and the film has made it to Berlinale 2022 as well. Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on Indian author Hussain Zaidi's book The Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It is one of the most anticipated films of 2022.

In a recent interview, Alia was asked what she thinks of her performance in Gangubai being compared to the roles played by Kangana Ranaut and Vidya Balan in the past. Alia brushed off the query by saying, "No, I haven't heard any of this."

“Yeah, people must have suggested casting," Alia added. "But I feel like one should not really get into… Somebody who is a director who has been working for 25 years obviously knows whom to cast in their main lead. I was okay with people thinking I was not right for the part because that is their own perspective.”

Kangana Ranaut has targeted Alia Bhatt on several occasions. Last year, during the promotions of her own biopic Thalaivi, Kangana took a jibe at Alia's casting in Gangubai Kathiawadi and called her a "chota bachcha as gangster (little child as a gangster)." Alia, however, usually refrains from taking on Kangana's frequent criticism directly.

Gangubai Kathiawadi will release in theatres on February 25, 2022.
