After trashing Deepika Padukone’s Gehraiyaan, Kangana Ranaut is hitting out at the cast and makers of the forthcoming biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Kangana Ranaut, despite her star performances and a bunch of top accolades, is more in the news these days for stirring one controversy after another. After the release of Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday’s Gehraiyaan on Friday, Kangana, in her Instagram stories, called the film “trash” and added that “no amount of pornography or skin show could save it”.
This is not the first time Kangana has launched into a tirade against fellow entertainers. She has, on many occasions, declared Bollywood her enemy and vowed to fight against what she claims is rampant nepotism in the industry.
Karan Johar, Taapsee Pannu, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt are some of the names that are bluntly targeted by Kangana. After denouncing Gehraiyaan, Kangana has expressed her concerns over the promotions of forthcoming biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi, which stars Alia Bhatt as the brothel owner Gangubai Harjivandas, and has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Filmfare recently posted a video on Twitter of a girl dressed as Alia’s character and recreating dialogues from the trailer. Filmfare praised the child’s recreation but after receiving flak, the tweet was taken down.
“Should this child imitate a sex worker with a beedi in her mouth and crude and obscene dialogues?” Kangana lashed out. “Is it OK to sexualise her at this age? There are hundreds of other children who are being used similarly.”
Kangana tagged Union Minister of Child and Women Development, Smriti Irani. The actor has shared a series of screenshots of posts lambasting the promotional videos for it as well. Filmfare has been receiving widespread criticism for the now deleted tweet.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on Indian author Hussain Zaidi’s book The Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film is slated for release on February 25, 2022.
