Opposition meets to discuss no-confidence motion
The Pakistan Democratic Movement has convened a virtual meeting of the heads of all Opposition parties today (Friday) to discuss options to table a no-confidence motion to remove Prime Minister Imran Khan and talk about its long march against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.
The meeting has been scheduled on the request of the PML-N, SAMAA TV has reported. Shehbaz Sharif of the PML-N and Fazlur Rehman of the JUI-F are likely to attend from the same meeting room.
The PDM will put forward decisions taken by its central executive committee.
Talking about the motion against the PM, PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz said that initially Nawaz Sharif was reluctant to pursue a vote of no-confidence but when the party committee had a discussion, he said the party should listen to Pakistan and get rid of Imran Khan.
She was talking to journalists outside the Islamabad High Court after her hearing in the Avenfield case. The party has already started contacting opposition parties and government’s allies, she said.
On February 5, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto and Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari met Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif. “It’s the writing on the wall," Shehbaz had said. "People want to get rid of this government.”
We have agreed that we have to explore every constitutional, legal and political option to get rid of the PTI government, the opposition leader said.
One-on-one meeting with Fazlur Rehman
Ahead of the PDM meeting, the Shehbaz Sharif will hold a meeting with Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
According to SAMAA TV sources, the meeting will be hosted at the PML-N president’s residence in Model Town, Lahore.
Shehbaz would update the PDM chief about his meeting with Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto.
