Danish stars as Karachi Kings book PSL playoffs berth
Danish Aziz starred as Karachi Kings secured their spot in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 playoffs for the sixth straight season.
The defending champions defeated Quetta Gladiators by 14 runs in their final league match on Saturday.
While chasing a 177-run target, Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men went off to a shaky start as both openers went back to the pavilion with just 48 runs on the board.
Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was pick of the batsmen as he topped scored with 51 off 33 balls.
Gladiators ended up just 23 runs short of the target as they ended up scoring 162 for six in their allotted 20 overs.
For Kings, Mohammad Ilays was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed figures of 3-39 in his four-over spell.
Earlier, after electing to bat, Karachi Kings posted a competitive total of 176, courtesy brilliant batting by Danish.
After getting off to a solid start, Kings lost the way in middle of the innings, as they lost three key wickets of Babar Azam (23), Martin Guptill (5) and Sharjeel Khan (45) in the span of just nine runs.
However, Danish stood up and played a 45-run cameo off just 13 balls with help of five maximums and two boundaries.
For Gladiators, young Arish Ali Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed figures of 4-28 in his four-over spell.
That’s it. Great win for Karachi Kings as they join Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans and Islamabad United in the playoffs.
