Weather report: Showers across Punjab, rain expected in Karachi

Several areas were hit by rain early Saturday morning
As districts across Punjab, Balochistan and Kashmir were hit by rain Saturday morning, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast light showers in Karachi as well.  It rained in various areas in Punjab like Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari and Lahore. In Khanewal, farmers were afraid the rain would spoil their wheat crop. It is wheat cutting season and the crop could be damaged by heavy rain. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rain throughout the day in Khanewal, while it says it will rain for another two to three days in Pakpattan and its surrounding areas. Low-lying areas in Vehari were flooded because of the rain, causing trouble for commuters and schoolchildren. Azad Jammu and Kashmir experienced heavy rain overnight and light snowfall in the mountainous regions. Wadi Neelam and Wadi Lipa were hit by heavy rain. Related: Rain expected on Monday: Met office
The Met department has said it may rain in Karachi on Monday. More light rain is also expected in Lahore and Quetta. Balochistan's capital is expected to receive sporadic showers over the next couple of days till Tuesday.
In Karachi, the temperature will be hot and dry for the next 24 hours before light rain is expected. Temperatures reached 36 degrees Centrigrade on Friday, with 57% humidity. More rain is also expected from Monday to Wednesday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. With additional reporting by Suleman Rao and Anwar Aftab.
