Qatari foreign minister arrives in Pakistan

Photo: Foreign Office Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani arrived for a one-day visit to Pakistan on Friday. He landed in Islamabad and met with Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the Foreign Office. Qureshi invited Qatari business community to invest in different sectors of Pakistan, including agriculture, livestock, energy. "We welcome Qatar's initiative to give employment to 100,000 Pakistanis," he remarked.  He also stressed the need to increase the trade between the countries. Recalling his meeting with him in New York on the sidelines of 73rd UNGA last month, the Qureshi reiterated his request for fast-tracking the recruitment process for import of more Pakistani workers by Qatar. He offered the services of professional Pakistani workforce for 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Al Thani congratulated the foreign minister on assuming office and conveyed his keen desire to work towards cementing brotherly relations between Pakistan and Qatar. Related: Qatar offers 100,000 jobs to Pakistanis A day earlier, the federal cabinet decided to renegotiate an agreement with Qatar to supply gas to Pakistan. Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said the agreement with Qatar had been under investigation by the National Accountability Bureau and other institutions. Qatar also shortlisted Pakistan on Wednesday to be one of the eight countries where its visa centres will be launched to facilitate people who want to apply for jobs in the Gulf country. The Qatar Embassy informed Zulfi Bukhari, special assistant to the prime minister, of the development in a letter.
