LAHORE: Funeral prayer for the eternal peace of renowned lawyer and human rights activist Asma Jahangir has been offered at at LCCA Ground in Lahore on Tuesday.
The LCCA Ground adjacent to Gaddafi Stadium was full to its capacity with people from all walks of life who gathered to pay last respects to the great icon of freedom of human beings.
Haider Farooq Maududi led the funeral prayer. The judges of Lahore High Court (LHC), PML-N leader Pervaiz Rashid, Mayhor Lahore were among the large number of people including dignitaries, and government officials.
Earlier, her body was shifted from hospital to her house where close relatives and family members cast a last and farewell glance at her. People in large number including members of her family, fellows, politicians, and media personnel arrived at her residence ahead of the funeral.
Asma will be laid to rest at her farmhouse located at Bedian Road.
Asma Jahangir passed away after suffering from a cardiac arrest on Sunday in Lahore. She was 66.
She was the first woman to become President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, besides heading the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
Asma Jahangir was also known for her advocacy of issues like minorities’ rights and women’s rights.
