KARACHI: The reconstruction of roads in Saddar will increase problems for commuters in Karachi who will suffer more as traffic congestion is likely to increase in the area.  According to details, a segment of the road leading to Bambino and Star cinemas was dug up on Monday that caused immense troubles for commuters going from Saddar to MA Jinnah Road. As per a report in a leading English daily, the flow of traffic was suffering as Abdullah Haroon Road, Zaibunnisa Street, Garden Road, Aga Khan III Road, from Fawwara Chowk near Madina City Mall to Zoological Gardens were being reconstructed. The chief engineer of the project stated that work had commenced from January and that it will take up to May to completely reconstruct the roads. Sewers and water pipelines are also being replaced as part of the project, whose total cost amounts to Rs 643 million. The chief engineer said that the road dug up beside Bambino cinema would be reopened in a few days after which the road next to it would be closed for traffic. He also said that the work was being carried out in segments owing to the importance of the roads that were undergoing construction--and the scarcity of alternate routes.
