NEWS DESK: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has alleged that the government paid Diyat to the families of the victims shot dead by CIA contractor Raymond Davis in order to arrange for his safe release. Addressing the Senate session, the defence minister said that he would cooperate if an inquiry is held. He said that different people played their role in Davis’ release, which was a violation of the country’s dignity. He added that the people who played a role in his release perhaps had their vested interests in the matter. According to him, the Government of Pakistan paid the blood money to their heirs of the victims. Asif spoke on the matter when Hafiz Hamdullah and Azam Swati presented a notice in the session to discuss the revelations in Davis’ recent book.
