ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee recommended on Wednesday that the passport and National Identity Card (NIC) tax defaulters be blocked.
According to details, the FBR briefed the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that there were tax cases amounting to more than Rs 300 billion pending in courts.
Chairman FBR requested for assistance through legislation with regard to speeding up the proceedings of these cases.
"Legislation must be conducted to ensure that a stay order for more than six months cannot be obtained in tax cases," said Chairman FBR Muhammad Irshad.
The committee expressed concern at the slow recovery of billions of rupees in taxes. The Auditor General also agreed with the recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee.
