SALEEM SHEHZAD COURT NEW 07-02 KARACHI: Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Saleem Shahzad was produced in a local antiterrorism court on Tuesday in connection with Dr. Asim Hussain case. Saleem Shahzad, who was arrested from Karachi airport on his arrival from Dubai after 10 years, was produced in the court by officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). After the hearing, the court sent Shahzad to jail on judicial remand, directing investigation officials to file a challan of the case by Feb. 18. He, along with some other politicians, has been nominated in a case against former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain who was allegedly involved in treating and harbouring wounded suspects at his Dr Ziauddin hospitals. An antiterrorism court had declared him a proclaimed offender in the case in August last year. According to our correspondent, more than a dozen cases of riots and violence were registered against Shahzad, but later waived under the so-called National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) issued by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in 2007. Over 3000 cases of MQM leaders were abolished. Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed authorities to put the name of Dr. Asim Hussain on Exit Control List (ECL). Dr. Asim Hussain, a close aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari and a PPP leader, is being investigated by National Accountably Bureau (NAB) and FIA. - Samaa
